Members of the Islamic City Council of Isfahan elected Mehdi Jamalinejad, PhD, as the mayor of Isfahan – the Iranian city which is also known as the Half of the World. 
 
An extraordinary session of the Islamic City Council of Isfahan met on Sunday to elect the mayor of Isfahan. Mehdi Jamalinejad garnered 19 votes to take over as the mayor of Isfahan Metropolis. There were two abstentions out of a total of 21 votes cast.
The new mayor, who holds a PhD in urban planning from University of Isfahan, is one of the seasoned managers in Isfahan Province and has held different positions in the province’s governor-general’s office, municipality and executive bodies.
The following are part of executive and managerial positions he has held so far: the head of the Department of Urban Affairs at Isfahan Governor-General’s Office, the head of the Development Department at Isfahan Governor-General’s Office, a senior advisor and the head of advisors to Isfahan mayor, and the head of the Department of Coordination among Districts and Organizations at Isfahan Municipality.    
Jamalinejad has written multiple scientific and research-related articles and penned different books on urban questions, among them Islamic Tourism and Urban Diplomacy.
